Poor Blood Supply Causes Hair Loss: Myth Or Reality?

Probably the most common accusation levelled at hair loss is the fact that hair starts falling out because the blood flow in the scalp isn’t sufficient to sustain the growth of hair. But, does this hold any truth, or is it simply a myth?

For decades people have tried all manner of contraptions and ideas to increase blood flow to the scalp in the hope of improving hair growth, and there has not been a single documented case in which an individual has lost hair through a lack of blood flow.

Follicles are tiny, tiny, tiny organisms, and the amount of blood flow they require is not much at all. And, the truth is, if your scalp didn’t have any real blood flow, then the entire top of your head would turn gangrenous as the flesh would simply die.

It may be that blood supply decreases as hair falls out, as the follicles don’t require blood to produce hair any longer, but this is (if it happens at all) is liable to be an effect of hair loss, rather than the cause of hair loss.

The real cause of male pattern baldness is DHT and genetics.
