Time To Break Out The Minoxidil…

A good bit of time has passed since I last blogged, but, what’s to say on a day-to-day basis about hair loss if you’re not utterly obsessed? Not a lot, in my opinion…

It seemed things were holding out well for a while – or maybe only in my imagination and hopes – what I do know is, my hair has definitely thinned considerably in the last year, at the front for sure, and at the back and top a fair amount, too. I’ve been taking Propecia all the while (barring the odd pill missed here and there which I don’t believe had any impact) but stopped with the Nizoral shampoo and cream at least 4 months ago – though I will get back on it more out of need for my scalp to be in better shape thanks to my new addition: Scalp-drying Minoxidil 5%.

I decided to use Minoxidil because I had some lying around which I bought years ago – way before I used Propecia – but only used for 2 months on the hairline and stopped having saw nothing at all happening, and the stuff is actually 6 months out of date – but it’s worth a go; more for curiosity and my new ‘nothing to lose, now’ attitude towards my hair loss than anything else. Several squirts of Minoxidil rubbed all across the top of the scalp is now a twice-daily event. Not as convenient as just the pill I’m used to, but hey, two proven treatments with different anti-baldness mechanisms are always better than one.

It’ll be interesting to see if anything happens, but, I really don’t anticipate seeing a huge improvement in my hair anymore. Thankfully, because I buzzed my hair early on and have adjusted to my new appearance – and even grown to like it, despite knowing I looked better with a full head of hair some 5-10 years ago, the reality is that’s gone, and pining for my hairier-headed past when there’s living to be done today doesn’t even seem possible anymore. I’m over it.

Having said that, I’m still willing to let my current Propecia cache (6 months worth) run its course, continue with my Minoxidil supply (Probably around 3-4 months) and I’ll firm up my regime again with regular Nizoral Shampoo (and twice daily crème applications an hour after Minxodil applications) and see how things go.
